Shaw floors including carpet, tile, hardwood, and stone were highlighted in both Southern Living Idea Houses for 2009. The Southern Living Idea Beach House on Mustang Island features Shaw carpet, hardwood, and tile in multiple living areas of the home, while Shaw hardwood is also showcased on the walls of a retreat area room. For more information about Shaw flooring products used in the Sothern Living Idea Houses read below.

Dalton, GA, September 17, 2009 ––Shaw floors were selected for both 2009 Southern Living Idea Houses this summer. One home, featured in the Reynolds Signature Community of Achasta in Dahlonega, Ga., utilized Shaw carpet, hardwood, and tile & stone– and even featured Shaw hardwood on the walls of the retreat area. The 2009 Southern Living Idea House on Mustang Island in Texas's new Cinnamon Shore community is not your average beach house. In fact, it takes traditional beach house design to a whole new level with a home designed to accommodate two to three couples and their kids–and is full of Shaw’s durable and eco–friendly Anso nylon carpet.

The Dahlonega home demonstrates both casual and polished elements with an emphasis on well–coordinated finishes and fabrics. Below are a few items that Southern Living encourages visitors not to miss:

  • Incredible kitchen –– designed for entertaining with family and friends.
  • Upstairs retreat – a single room on the top floor that is a real get–away haven.
  • Master bath – done in a pale aqua grass cloth and glittering sea–glass mosaic tile shower, you will feel like you are at the spa.
  • Outdoor living spaces – this home is overflowing with places to relax, dine, and entertain, while taking in the incredible mountain views.

The Dahlonega home's interior design was completed by Mallory Mathison, Inc. Mathison selected Shaw's Fremont solid hand–scraped hardwood flooring in a deep chocolate tone named Legacy, an Anso nylon room–size cut and bound area rug from the popular Savvy Spaces collection and several of the company’s Glass Expressions tiles to give the home an eclectic yet relaxed look. The home also featured Shaw's Loft tile throughout the family room and children's bath as well as an Shaw's Anderson Hardwood Virginia Vintage handscraped planks for the flooring and walls of the loft retreat. The home is truly Shaw floors from the ground up.

Here are some features of the Mustang Island home, designed by Tracery Interiors, Southern Living feels visitors will enjoy:

  • An entry way that lets you see all the way to the third floor.
  • A sleeping loft that gives kids space of their own for fun and games.
  • Stenciled walls in the master bedroom will be the hot new trend.
  • Tons of great outdoor living space and fireplaces for relaxing and entertaining.
  • A kitchen moved to the second level to take advantage of the view over the dunes.

"Shaw participates in projects like the Southern Living ideas houses in order to reach our targeted consumer in an inspirational and unique setting," said Reggie Newton, Shaw's vice president of marketing. "Thousands of consumers tour the Southern Living show homes for ideas and product recommendations, and we receive a very large volume of calls about the products featured in the homes. The idea houses allow Shaw to deliver educated, ready–to–purchase consumers to Shaw retailers."

The 2009 Southern Living Idea House, located in the Reynolds Signature Community of Achasta in Dahlonega, Ga., is opened to the public for tours throughout December. Tickets are $5 at the door and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales benefit the local United Way of Dahlonega/Lumpkin County.

The 2009 Southern Living Idea House on Texas's Mustang Island in the new Cinnamon Shore community is open to the public June 6 – Sept. 27, and tickets are $5 at the door. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Port Aransas Education Foundation.
