Appalachian Woods - Antique Hardwood Flooring

Appalachian Woods LLC is a business based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia that is committed to preservation of antique timber and lumber found in the Appalachian Mountains. It is a family run business that was started in 1976.

Antique wood has an extraordinary beauty of its own with unique historical links. Environmental concerns with deforesting of vast forest tracts which will affect the quality of life have popularized the concept of recycling of old wood. Most of the wood used by the company is salvaged from buildings that are over a century old.

While the company uses a variety of wood species, one of the most popular and of outstanding beauty is American chestnut that was prolific in the Appalachians. Chestnut has an unusual reddish–brown color and is resistant to decay because of which it was extensively used from building log cabins to making railway fences. As a great many chestnut trees were lost because of blight in the early 1900s, recycling is the only way of preserving these magnificent specimens. The company salvages this and converts it into some of the most exquisite flooring.

Another specialty of the company is its Antique Heart Pine Flooring made from heart pine timbers that was widely popular during the industrial revolution and is salvaged from old buildings.

Appalachian Woods recycles these woods for conversion to flooring with varied appearances mostly rustic, for that sense of enduring historical timelessness. Salvaged timber is also the raw material for a variety of furniture and other timber products.

The company is committed to quality workmanship and maintaining the highest standards of principled business practices.
