Aged Woods

Aged Woods® is a company based in York, PA, that has developed a market for precision–milled antique flooring. The base raw material is old, reclaimed wood that was destined to be scrapped. Such woods are kiln dried and heat treated before further processing to ensure stability and a termite–free floor. Having weathered a century or two, these woods have acquired natural aged look. Most of the company’s woods are used in commercial complexes while a significant amount finds its way to residential buildings.

Some of the planks in their product range are made from freshly–felled, old trees from virgin forests. Because of age, this wood has acquired a tighter grain which adds a rustic character to the floor. Planks from new growth wood are available in wide widths and long lengths, beyond the standard. They are cheaper than antique wood and are sold under the Yesteryear® brand of flooring. However the same high standard of quality, consistency and service is maintained.

Two years ago the company released its ERA® – Engineered Reclaimed Antique – flooring. This is a 15mm ten–layered product, the top layer being a 3mm wear layer of authentic reclaimed antique wood. The adhesive used is formaldehyde–free and the planks are finished with 7 coats of abrasion–resistance aluminum oxide. Because of its durability, the company offers a 20–year residential finish warranty and a lifetime structural integrity warranty on this product.

Aged Woods products are classified into two categories – Antique and Antique Distressed® which are distinguishing marks to denote the different degrees of weathering sustained. In addition to its range of aged woods, the company also has a line in Heart pine and rare aged woods that include Chestnut and Hickory.

The company is a Member of the US Green Building Council. All Aged Woods products are eligible for LEED MRc5 and contribute to LEED MRc3.

Apart from a sizeable home market, the company has established an export clientele. Its aged flooring is exported to Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, UK and Israel.
