The Environmental Benefits of Bamboo

Bamboo is a perfect choice for those who desire flooring that's both durable and green. Unlike other floor surfaces that are made with non-sustainable materials (e.g. concrete; vinyl) bamboo floors consist primarily of grass shoots that can replenish themselves with little to no cultivation. In addition, bamboo shoots grow at a tremendous rate; some can even grow up to 3 feet in a day!

Bamboo forests are essential at helping to combat global warming. A bamboo forest is capable of producing up to 30% more oxygen than a hardwood forest of the same size. Bamboo shoots are very versatile and can thrive in a variety of habitats. These elements make bamboo ideal for green building.

Bamboo floors are naturally hypoallergenic. In other words, they resist common household allergens such as dust mites, pet dander and pollen. All in all, this feature makes the surface of bamboo relatively easy to clean. A light sweeping every now and then should keep your bamboo floors looking great! To clean hard-to-remove stains, use a green cleaning product that's recommended by the manufacturer. Green cleaners generally contain natural ingredients and are less harsh than the more conventional types.

At the end of their useful lives, bamboo floors can be recycled and made into new flooring or products. When your bamboo floors have reached the end of their lifespan, take them to a local reclamation center so they can be properly salvaged.

I looked for bamboo retailers everywhere. Finally found one.thanks for providing the information. it really helped. I redecorated my home and in the process made an Eco-friendly home as well. Solar panels outside, bamboo flooring inside my entire home. I must admit the bamboo flooring was a bit pricey but well wroth the money. I must also admit that I did cheat. I used vinyl in some of my rooms like closets, pantry, smaller areas where I felt my carbon footprint wouldn't be completely destroyed. I suggest that to anyone looking to go GREEN! Find some places in your home that you can save money on like pantries, closets etc. it really helps and better yet it looks identical.

Bamboo is wayyyy more durable than I imagined. Went shopping to a local bamboo retailer yesterday and actually saw and felt the bamboo itself. I always thought it was so flimsy like a bamboo plant. But it isn't. The information here is really helpful and spot on but it helps to actually go and see it in person to not mistake it for a flimsy grass. It makes all the difference to go and see it.
