Green Cleaning Products

As more people become aware of the health and environmental impacts of household products, the more they realize the importance of buying green cleaning products. A primary contributor to the quality of indoor air is volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are carbon-based compounds that are used in the manufacture of a number of floor types as well as in floor cleaning products.

Getting a floor that emits a lower level of toxic chemicals is a huge step towards promoting healthier indoor living. So is cleaning those floors regularly with natural-based green cleaners. Use the following tips when choosing eco-friendly cleaning products for your home.

  • Choose floor cleaners that contain plant oils, eucalyptus, coconut, sage or rosemary.
  • When making your own cleaners at home ingredients that are safe to use include baking soda, lemon juice, borax, vinegar and sodium carbonate.
  • Purchase non-chlorine bleach that's made with sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate.
  • Select floor detergents that are fragrance-free.
  • Choose all-purpose cleaners that are plant-based, such as coconut oil or palm kernel.

you can also use lemon juice and sea salt to cleaning your porcelain tiles. The sea salt acts as an abrasive. I like the combination because it makes my bathroom smell good.

hydrogen peroxide and water - even amounts for both to use on your tile floors in your bathrooom works too. I use this mixture to clean my grout...now im curious to see if the sea salt like Claire mentioned would help with the grout cleaning as well. If it acts as an abrasive I'm sure it will work even better when I use it for my next bathroom scrub down. Plus thanks for the tip Claire, I love when my bathroom smells good too.

The sea salt does trick on your grout and tile does work. I don't think it works as well as an industrial grout, floor, tile cleaner but it works and it made my bathroom floors shine and smell so nice!
