A LEED Green Associate is a credential created by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) to indicate that a
person possesses a fundamental knowledge of green construction, design and operations. The credential is essentially for
professionals who need to demonstrate their proficiency in green building to others in non–technical areas of practice.
To demonstrate eligibility for this accreditation a candidate must meet one of the following three criteria:
- Provide documentary evidence of association with a LEED registered project.
- Furnish evidence of employment or past employment in a sustainable field of work.
- Provide evidence of completion of or being engaged in an education program which incorporates principles of green
building.
A candidate must also take and pass the LEED Green Associate Exam. The LEED Green Associate Exam is a
computer–based, multiple–choice exam that has to be completed in two hours and comprises 100 multiple choice
questions delivered at random. Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 170 on the scale based process of scoring
to earn a LEED Green Associate credential.
