Mohawk EverStrand carpet made with PET will finally get the spotlight it deserves as this carpeting made from recycled
plastic bottles has been selected as the official red carpet of the Daytime Emmy awards. EverStrand carpet is made with PET
(polyethylene terephthalate) fiber, which comes from 100 percent post–consumer recycled plastic bottles. The producers
of the Daytime Emmy Awards chose Mohawk’s EverStrand carpet as a green and eco–friendly flooring option to help with
the environmentally sound production of the awards ceremony.
Dalton, GA (August 28, 2009)– When the stars of daytime television stroll down the red carpet at the 36th Annual
Daytime Emmy® Awards this weekend, they’ll be making a strong green statement.

Mohawk's EverStrand™ carpet made from recycled plastic bottles was selected as the famed "red carpet" for the
Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony. The awards ceremony, which will be held at the historic Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, will
air Sunday, August 30, at 8pm on the CW Network.
The producers chose Mohawk EverStrand as part of their effort to stage an environmentally sound production. The Emmys
will use a variety of products and practices to show what can be done to protect and improve the environment, including
recycling, using hybrid vehicles, reducing lighting to save energy, and other tactics. The Emmy production is carefully
planned to be carbon neutral.
Mohawk's EverStrand fiber is a polyester produced entirely from recycled soft drink and water bottles. One out of every
four bottles recycled in North America becomes Mohawk carpet. Mohawk recycles more than three billion bottles every year,
making the company the largest recycler of plastic bottles in the country.
Because the US Food & Drug Administration requires top quality PET (polyethylene terephthalate) for beverage bottles,
the recycled product offers superior performance characteristics over many fibers. On average, 30 plastic bottles are
recycled to make one square yard of Mohawk EverStrand carpet.
Mohawk's own ongoing environmental effort, Mohawk GreenWorks, is an umbrella program that places all green projects under
a single platform for management and information. Mohawk GreenWorks communicates the effort that goes into the company's
scores of environmental practices. Mohawk GreenWorks covers the spectrum of environmental practices–the "5
Rs"–recycle, renew, reuse, recover, and reduce.
Mohawk’s environmental efforts have been cited by government agencies as a model for other industries to follow. Mohawk
currently diverts more than three billion pounds of pre– and post–consumer waste from landfills every year. More
than 500 Mohawk products–carpet, carpet tiles, cushion, laminates, and ceramic tile–contain recycled materials.
These materials come from manufacturing, discarded tires, roofing, old wood furniture, soft drink bottles, and various other
sources.
