It is that time of year again where the roadsides are littered with political candidate signs. I for one can’t stand to
see the landscape transform into a giant garage sale of loud and obnoxious signs. First of all the signs are an eyesore, not
to mention most are horribly done (politicians thinking they are marketers). But more importantly most of these candidates
are promoting “green” and climate awareness. I especially love the candidates who have something to say about global warming,
yet these signs litter the road. Are these signs on recycled paper? Will most of these candidates make sure their signs are
cleaned up after the election? Think again.
I am not one to post political oriented blogs, but I think the hypocrisy needs to be pointed out. For one I would like to
see a law that states a limit to the amount of roadside signs that a politician can post. In addition, the candidates should
have to stick to their constituency area. Lastly, it would be great to enforce the clean up of these signs after the
election. I have actually argued this with some of the politicians and they say there is no way to enforce it as their
opponents could post opposing signs on purpose. I really don’t care about excuses; I would just like to see a little
responsibility here on behalf of any politician. I know I am asking for a miracle here, but it is getting out of control. The
signs started off as poster size liter, but have transformed in 18 wheeler size road distractions. How many accidents are
caused each political season by people distracted by these signs?
Of course, let’s remember that the same people making the laws are the ones with the signs on the road. Before people
start writing me to say that their person of choice cleans up, I do recognize that some of them are responsible people. This
blog is intended just to bring attention to a situation that continues to get out of control.
Well there is my political rant of the year. I for one will not vote for anyone littering the roadside. Looks like I might
be writing Mickey Mouse’s name on the ballot. Since most of the politicians live in fantasy land, Mickey might actually do a
better job.
