One month ago, I did something I never had anticipated; purchased an Apple computer in lieu of a new PC. I have to admit I
was skeptical and nervous that I might have wasted a couple thousand dollars on an impulse buy. Like many others, I was drawn
to Apple through their creative TV ads where they do a great job of pointing out all the headaches users experience with a
PC. The TV ads coupled with the clean design of their stores, lured me in. I threw caution to the wind knowing virtually
nothing about how the Mac operated.
It should be considered that I am an avid PC user having owned dozens of them in the last 15 years; and more recently,
buying at least 1 new laptop and desktop every year. I was constantly frustrated by common PC problems such as; viruses, boot
up times (especially laptops), bugs in Microsoft programs, and of course, the dreaded blue screen of death.
I figured I had nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying something different. On the day that my brand new HP
desktop crashed due to a faulty hard drive (which the warranty replaced), I drove down to Apple and came home with a new
MacBook Pro laptop.
So after one month, what are the results? How frustrated am I? How many crashes have there been or blue screens of death?
The results, the MacBook Pro has been flawless, no, actually it has been better than flawless as it has single handedly
lowered my stress level. Doctors should subscribe Macs to PC users instead of stress medications, as I am sure it will help.
The features of the Mac that eclipse any of my PC's are too numerous to name, but some have to be mentioned. I travel all the
time, and therefore use a laptop at airports, in taxis, hotels, just about anytime I am not driving. One of the biggest gifts
Apple gives to former PC users is the time it takes the laptop wakes up from sleep mode. For example, as quick as I opened
the cover of the laptop, the screen was on and I was typing this blog (I had left Word opened when I put it to sleep). On a
PC laptop, it used to be 30 seconds to well over a minute, and a lot of times I just had to shut down and reboot.
I haven't counted the number of times that I have used the Mac in the last 30 days, but it is fair to say that I average
several hours 7 days a week. Not once have I had a single issue, a crash, a virus, disappearing programs, or anything else
that has gone wrong for that matter.
Even with this write up I know that several of my colleagues and PC friends will still be in doubt as I was for years. All
I can tell them is, go out and try one. In fact I will give them the models to try and after a month of using them, if they
don’t like the Apple product, I promise to buy it so they can go back to their slow running PC life.
