Here is a question I would like to have an answer to: What is wrong with my floor? Tile floor installed over concrete subfloor. Some of the tiles when knocked on have a hollow sound and others stepped on give of a sound as when they are laying in sand. Is it a installation error or problem? Please advice and give me a tip how to solve this problem!

Hey Willi,

I recommend posting your question on the FAF forum. That way you can get different opinions as there is many possibilities as to what could be wrong. Michael, the tile expert will be glad to help. He will probably need more info from you regarding what products and methods were used, so be as descriptive as possible in your post. You WILL get a response there. Cheers.

Hello Willi, I am one of the tile professionals on this site. I went ahead and answered your question in the forum since there is not enough room to fully answer your question here. Just copy and paste this URL into your browser window to see my response:

Excellent site for all things flooring! Thanks.

To Willie: I would have to have more info. to know the for sure cause of the problem. If you have a good substrate (concrete not cracking or spalling off) then you definitely have an installation error. Probably the mud was 'burnt up' by the time the tile was set, there wasn't good enough coverage, etc. The tile will have to be pulled and if substrate is in good condition, then the tile can be reset properly and regrouted.

Just wanted to give a big shout out to High Fashion Floors, an internet based company, and proprietor Sha (pronounced Shay) Reason.

I was planning a remodel, and Sha was able to quickly find the laminate flooring that I had installed about 10 years ago, even though I couldn't locate it myself on the manufacturer's website.

The price was very reasonable, much less than I originally had paid, and the service he provided was excellent.

I'd use this company again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for all types of flooring.

Great site and blogs for us do it yourself home makeover types. I used your video to install laminate floor and it looks great. I am going to try and tackle some vinyl flooring in the kitchen next.

I have allot of the rubber granules used for poured in place playground surfaces but do not have any glue. My brother bought a contractor out ...at least 1 to 2 tons of it...all colors
Can anyone suggest where I can purchase the glue & give any guidance on how to do it.
I'm putting it around my swumming pool & will be laying anywhere from 150 to 200 sq/ft in 3 different places.
I'm not a total dufus ..can lay brick, pour concrete & other crafts. Just know there are tricks to every trade & not having ever done this before don't want to screw up my first job... especially at home.
Thanks in advance.

Has anyone used the new kwik-tile. It is supposed to be very easy DIY. Just wondering if it is as good as the advertisment.

I have installed a Forbo Marmoleum sheet vinyl in my kitchen. I am seeing bubbles in the floor. The subfloor is wood and I put 1/4 grade plywood over the sub floor. What could be the cause of the bubbles?

When laying a wood floor on the diagonal, can you start in a corner?

Engineered floors are easier and cheaper when going over a concrete sub floor. A Solid wood flooring is easier when lay on wood as it gets secret naided down with a porter nailer

I need help. I have to replace all the carpeting in my house due to animal accidents. I am sensitive to chemicals. To make matters worse I live in a townhouse with 30 stairs to cover. What type of flooring would you use that is hard, waterproof and gives off no odors? I am game for anything but carpet.
