Regular maintenance of your tile flooring will keep it looking great and save you from lots of vigorous on-all-fours scrubbing. Your hands and knees will thank you!
Maintenance cleaning is the same no matter the tile material:
• Dust, vacuum, or sweep the floor regularly. A soft dust mop that is washable with a replaceable head will help you save money. Swiffers® and other disposable cloth dusters may work as well, but you might find trails of dust and dirt left behind when you use these.
• Damp mop with water. It is best to use the manufacturer's recommended cleaner or a mild detergent solution. Usually, damp mopping with water is all it takes to clean your tile flooring unless spills or other accidents occur.
Other helpful tips:
• Clean grout by using a capful of rubbing alcohol with a gallon of water.
• Because ammonia and acid-based cleansers can damage tiles, try using dish soap and water.
• Be careful not to flood the floor with water. Excess water will seep into tile seams which can loosen the adhesives that hold the tiles in place.
