Foam and rubber flooring from Great Mats that are Kid FriendlyWhen it comes to buying flooring for a child’s nursery, playroom, or daycare center, foam and rubber kid friendly flooring or mats are the perfect flooring solution. Foam and rubber flooring mats are waterproof, durable, easy to clean, and most importantly, shock absorbing. When you install foam or rubber flooring in your child’s nursery or playroom, you can take comfort in knowing that if your child takes a spill, he or she will land on a shock absorbent surface that will cushion their fall. As added benefits, foam and rubber kid friendly flooring is sound dampening, provides good heat insulation, and also offers traction to reduce slipping.

Stimulating, educational and colorful interlocking floor tiles from Great MatsIn addition to the physical benefits of installing foam and rubber flooring in a nursery, playroom, or daycare, colorful kid friendly flooring also has its learning mental health benefits. Studies have shown that adding color to your child’s bedroom, play area, or daycare can help to stimulate brain activity and health. In addition, kid friendly puzzle flooring can be an interactive learning experience. From interlocking puzzle tiles that fit together to form shapes or pictures to learning mats that help your child learn their ABC’s and 123’s, puzzle flooring mats are a great way to help your child learn as they play.

Types of foam and rubber flooring include interlocking tiles and rollsKid friendly flooring is most commonly purchased in interlocking foam or rubber tiles, though rolled rubber or foam flooring is also available. Foam interlocking tiles that join together to make foam floor mats (also called safety mats) are most commonly made of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) foam. EVA foam mats are non-toxic and free of PVC, lead, and latex, making them kid friendly and a healthy choice for any home or business. Rubber floor tiles or rolled rubber flooring is available in natural or synthetic rubber. For children that are allergic to latex, choose synthetic rubber flooring and mats over natural rubber for an allergy friendly alternative.

From colorful wall–to–wall flooring to kid-friendly "play and learn" mats, foam or rubber kid friendly flooring mats for your nursery, playroom, or daycare center are a safe choice that you will be glad you made.

I have a nursery and day care center and we are looking at replacing the carpet. Based on this article it seems that rubber or foam is the best flooring for our children. Where would we buy that material? Is foam flooring different from rubber? I will look more throughout this floor site, but if someone could tell me where to start looking for prices on rubber or foam mats and flooring that would be appreciated.

Hello Mary! Just read your flooring post and I think you are right. Replacing the carpet in you day care center would be the best way to go. I have children (4 actually) and I have replaced my carpet for rubber mats. I researched some types of rubber and you can pick out any type you like, any color, any shape, and size of rubber flooring you prefer.I love the fact that they are not only kid-friendly but they are pet-friendly as well...I also have two dogs. I find that the rubber floors are so easy to maintain and are so durable! Its a great investment for the long run whether you install it yourself or have a Rubber Installation Pro come in and do it for you!

You can find rubber flooring at greatmats.com. Hope that helps. If you go with rubber, I recommend synthetic rubber as it is safe for those with latex allergies.

EVA foam mats are very commonly used in daycares and kids play rooms. easy to put down and take up and they are interlocking. the ones at Getrung.com are lead and latex free with lots of testing results behind them for safety and composition.

Thanks for the references rubber enthusiast and Sean. I will check into both companies for my DIY project. I have been searching for a rubber flooring that is safe for my little one who has latex allergies. Im very curious about rubber and have been searching for some "modern" rubber flooring themes. I want my flooring to look good along with being allergy appropriate. thanks again!
