Best Wood Floors for Pets

Floors that are made with woody materials such as bamboo, hardwood and laminate, can be a perfect fit for your pet, depending on the type of floor and pet you have. With so many hardwood and laminate floor options to choose from, you should be able to find a wood floor that can live up to the wear and tear of your pet.

Larger pets (e.g. Irish Setter; Labrador Retriever) require a wood floor that can stand up to a lot of wear and tear. If you're interested in getting the best bamboo flooring, check out strand woven bamboo. Strand woven bamboo floors are manufactured by compressing strips of bamboo together with high heat and pressure. The end result is a floor that's as hard and durable as some of the strongest hardwood floor types. Use the bamboo FAQ section to learn more about the pros and cons of strand woven and other bamboo floor varieties.

If you want hardwood flooring but don't want to deal with floor damage on account of your pet, consider laminate. Laminate floors can be made to look and feel just like the type of hardwood you desire, and for less cost. High-pressure laminate, and laminate that has an Abrasion Class (AC) rating of AC3, AC4 or AC5, should be strong enough to withstand most pet wear without damage.

If you have any suggestions on how to prevent pet floor damage for laminate, hardwood and bamboo flooring, feel free to post a comment!
