Types of Concrete Aggregate

Concrete flooring can be so much more than just slabs of crushed stone. Aggregates can be added to concrete to alter its look, as well as improve its structural strength. Aggregates are materials that are added to concrete to enhance its appearance and texture. Concrete aggregates can be coarse (e.g. stone) or fine (e.g. sand) and can transform an otherwise dull surface into one that's suitable for indoor use.

When it comes to concrete aggregate, there are a few different options. If you're installing concrete outside, consider adding crushed stone to the mix. Crushed stones come in a variety of colors and can give your concrete patio or driveway an eye-catching look. If you live by the ocean, shell aggregates may be just what you're looking for. If installed properly, concrete floors with polished shell aggregate can look beautiful indoors as well.

Tumbled glass is a popular aggregate used often for indoor concrete flooring. Choose one, two or several glass colors to add to your concrete surface. Concrete with glass aggregate can also be used to create gorgeous outdoor walkways. Note that coarser aggregates tend to jut out above concrete's surface, and therefore may not be ideal for kids or wheelchairs. For a smoother surface, select finer aggregates.
