When selecting new carpet, choosing Mohawk's SmartStrand carpet made with DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer made from triexta, can show your commitment to protecting the environment. SmartStrand carpet is considered "green" carpet because its pile contains Bio-PDOTM fibers, made from corn sugar, which is a renewable resource. By choosing Mohawk SmartStrand carpets, we can reduce our dependence on petroleum based carpet, and therefore, have less of a negative impact on the environment. In addition, Mohawk's SmartStrand carpet requires 30% less energy to produce than nylon, and produces 63% less greenhouse gas emissions during manufacturing. Mohawk's green carpet goes beyond being eco-friendly.

As an added benefit, Mohawk's SmartStrand carpet is kid and pet friendly as it is an inherently stain resistant carpet. Even mustard, bleach, and the dreaded spilled Kool-Aid® will wash right off. The stain resistant feature is engineered into the carpet fiber and will not wash off when cleaned, therefore retreating is not necessary.

Mohawk carpet is one of several green flooring possibilities that Mohawk flooring offers. Whether it's eco-friendly carpet, tree-saving hardwood, green laminate, or even water saving tile, Mohawk flooring is continually striving to reach further in order to manufacturer flooring that is as green as possible. Triexta ! It's popping up everywhere. I went into my local floor store and my guy couldn't stop talkin about it! Now I get it. Great Blog, very informative on the new carpet technologies and the ecofriendly avenues these manufacturers are going with it.

Thanks for your comment Les. Glad you found my blog useful! I look forward to seeing what new triexta products are brought to the market.

Purchased Mohawk SmartStrand Colonial Gardens. A lot of it, very expensive. Selling tool was the "no stain" guarantee. We have had the carpet about a month, and cannot remove ANY stain, even ordinary walking on the carpet. We don't wear shoes in the house. First stain, I tried the Stainmaster treatment, did nothing. Then tried Windex, Shout, OxyClean. Nothing took it out. Then bought an H2O floor mop, as the rep said it had to be "steam cleaned" Tried that tonight, and it doesn't work either. Did I get a bad piece of carpet, or was I stupid enough to believe the sales person. We had previously bought carpet from this small individual carpet company and were pleased with the service, installation and results. I'm thinkin' the Mohawk rep must have really sold them a bill of goods. As far as I'm concerned, this carpet is totally useless and I'll be paying on it for several years.

I agree with Judie!! Was sold on Smartstrand because of the ease of removing stains; however, i can't get the stains out either. A glass of red wine got tipped over and it has ruined my carpet. Plain water didn't work, and then water with a little detergent, (as suggested) only seem to dilute it a litte. It's now just a huge grayish/purple spot. Normal soil won't come up easily either.

I puchased smartstrand two weeks ago and am very disappointed in it. The 'new carpet smell' isn't leaving and it is the smelliest carpet I have ever purchased. It is also causing a chemical reaction in me with burning ears and weird taste in my mouth and making me nauseated. My husband is experiencing numbing of the lips and a metallic sensation in his mouth as well and he is a motor head working with all kinds of smells. The carpet is going back as it isn't working. There is a 60 days return at the date of invoice. I have left windows open and an air purifier going 24/7. We have done a steamed hot water extract. Nothing is working. It is the worst carpet I have ever bought. I am just floored (no pun intended) by the nightmare of having this carpet. I did look up in the warrenty and they did admit it isn't 100% stain resistant. The warrenty also said the 95% of the new smell would dissapate in 24 hours. I would not recommend this product at all.
