How to Measure for Carpet

The method for measuring for carpet is the same as it is for all other floor types. An extremely helpful tool for measuring room spaces is FindAnyFloor.com's Quick Click floor estimator. This free and easy-to-use tool can help you determine how much flooring material you'll need to successfully complete your installation project. The Quick Click floor estimator tool even lets you account for stationary obstacles such as kitchen islands and fireplaces.

Before you can properly utilize the floor estimator, you'll need to first measure the area where you'll be installing your new carpet. Using a tape measure, assess the length of each wall within the installation area in feet and inches. Try to be exact as possible, and always round the measurement up. Its better that you purchase more material than you need, opposed to not enough. Any extra carpet material may come in hand later when you need to replace damaged carpet areas.

For more precise measurements, use the Advanced Estimator Tool. This allows you to factor in unique room angles and other characteristics that may affect the amount of carpet material you'll need. The Advanced Estimator Tool can help you re-create the exact perimeter of your installation area in no time. It's so easy to use, and can help take the guesswork out of your carpet measurements!

Very useful blog. Thanks. I used the carpet estimator, rounded up and got the perfect amount of carpeting. The carpeting came a couple days ago and the installation has already begun but I know from the looks of it that I will have enough. Thanks for the tool, I didn't over spend either.

Make sure if you are using any type of carpet calculator that you order a couple of yards extra. Automated programs cannot forsee things like damage on the inside of the roll where you might loose anywhere from 6 inches to a foot due to damage from the manufacturer. One can always ship it back but really on the day of the install when all furniture has been moved and prepared for a install the last thing you want is to have to return the entire roll due to some minor damge and have to wait another 2 to 3 weeks for another roll to show up. It also doesnt hurt to have a little extra for future patching in case of an accident or stain that will not come out. Patching with leftover from original roll will be a money saver. Also youll never get the same dye lot if you tried to order more later to do the patchwork.
