Best Carpet Type

When it comes to carpet there is no right or wrong answer; only better and not-so-great choices. The best carpet type for your home depends entirely on your lifestyle. Do you have pets or kids? Do you move furniture often or anticipate a lot of foot traffic in your home? Finding answers to these important questions can help you sort through your carpet options in a more efficient manner.

Take my home for example: I have a beautiful blue Saxony carpet in my living room that's made with cotton fibers. While cotton carpet feels great underfoot, I've found that it stains more easily than the nylon carpet in my bedroom. The Saxony style also tends to shed under heavy foot traffic. Had I known this sooner, I may have just reserved this carpet style for the formal dining room!

Before you can delve into the many thousand combinations of carpet styles, I suggest you take a look at the room and its purpose. While some of the more formal carpet types look nice, they don't always hold up as well against spills and weight. Remember, you're not limited to choosing just one carpet type for your entire house; give your home some character by mixing the floor surfaces up a bit.

Environmental advocates will be happy to know that there's beautiful carpet out there made with recycled materials. While a 100% green carpet does not exist (still in the works), you can still find one with fibers and a carpet backing made with post-consumer materials and recycled plastic bottles. To learn more about how you can acquire green carpet for your home, check out Green.FindAnyFloor.com.

The best carpet type for you could be one you never knew existed!
