Vinyl floors usually only require a light sweep and mop with a mild cleaner in order to retain a and new-looking surface. Mopping should be done with warm water and not hot water. Although vinyl floors are resistant to water, you should still take care and only damp mop.
You should only wax vinyl flooring when sweeping and mopping won't return the shine back to your vinyl floors. Vinyl flooring should be waxed right after they're installed and should routinely receive a wax coat. Regular waxing should help give vinyl floors more protection while still maintaining a shiny surface. Note that wax can build up over time and may result in an uneven surface. Wax build up also can also look grey and yellow and have black patches.
Before you can wax vinyl flooring, you'll need to make sure that the floors are free from dirt and debris. Otherwise, you'll just end up trapping the dirt onto the vinyl floors with the wax. If your wax becomes unattractive, you should remove it before applying another wax coat. When removing old wax from vinyl flooring, wear protective goggles and heavy utility gloves. Next, apply an ammonia-based wax stripper to the floor and let this stand for as long as the product specifies. Hard to remove wax can be lifted with a small putty knife.
