Steam Cleaning Carpet and Upholstery

When it comes to steam cleaning carpet and upholstery, I recommend hiring a professional steam cleaner. Here are my Top 5 Reasons why steam cleaning carpet and upholstery should be left to a professional.

Reason to Hire a Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner #5

Not all carpets and upholstery are colorfast and therefore, may bleed color when improperly cleaned. A professional cleaner will examine these items for colorfastness and determine an appropriate cleaning method based on their findings.

Reason to Hire a Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner #4

Carpets are made with a variety of different carpet fibers and the same goes for upholstery material. Different types of fibers and materials require different cleaning methods. Improperly cleaning upholstery, for example, may result in shrinking of the material.

Reason to Hire a Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner #3

When cleaning upholstery, professionals are careful not to leave any moisture around metal parts such as zippers, metal buttons, and studs. Any water left on metal parts or the surrounding material can cause metal to rust which will not only discolor the metal, but also the surrounding material.

Reason to Hire a Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner #2

Different stains require different upholstery or carpet cleaning solutions. In some cases, professional carpet cleaners may use a pre–treatment to thoroughly remove particular stains. Failure to use the proper cleaning solutions can cause stains to set deeper into the carpet fibers or upholstery material and become harder to remove.

Reason to Hire a Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner #1

The #1 reason to hire a pro is that professional upholstery and carpet cleaners use powerful machines which heat water to the right temperature, apply water properly, and extract water more completely. Many home carpet cleaning machines do not perform to these same standards. They often apply too much or not enough water that is not hot enough, or in some cases, too hot for a particular material. In addition, home carpet cleaning machines often fail at properly extracting water back out of the carpet or upholstery which can create a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

Overall, a professional upholstery and carpet steam cleaner will choose the right products and cleaning methods to make your carpet or upholstery look new again, or as close to new as possible.

USed the Rug Doctor on my carpeting last week and I hate that carpet cleaning machine. Waste of time and money. If you are a small person like myself you need to get a professional cleaner in your home. The Rug Doctor was very heavy with the water and cleaning products and it left a lot of water on my carpet. No suction. It was horrible. Maybe it was just my machine, but I will never rent again. Professional cleaning next time.

DIY Steph, we feel your pain with trying to steam clean your carpets on your own. Have you tried Stanley Steemer Carpet cleaners or other reputable carpet cleaning companies in your area?

Cleaning crew uses a Millicare dry powder to clean carpet, but applies NSX mist to carpet prior to applying powder. NSX has sulfuric acid in composition and is causing steel office furniture parts to rust. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
