Bright red fingernails can be very alluring, but a bright red spot of nail polish on your carpet is generally not. If you find yourself in this situation, don't fret! There are a lot of stain-removal tips on the Internet and I've listed a few of them below. Some may seem rather commonplace while others seem a bit more unusual, but feel free to try them and see what works for you. Never forget that when using any stain-removal solution first test it on a small hidden area of carpet to make sure it won't damage or discolor it. Also, make sure you blot stains rather than rub them as rubbing can spread the stain or embed it further into the carpet fibers.
Try these:
- Apply enough water to wet the stain. Lightly coat the stain with hairspray, and then apply 3-5 splashes of rubbing alcohol. Gently scrub the stain with a brush, and then blot with a paper towel. Rinse with water, and blot dry.
- Use nail-polish remover... but beware! This is very likely to remove dye from your carpet. On lighter carpets this may work well but on darker carpets it is much more likely to do more harm than good.
- Apply water and hydrogen peroxide.
- Head out to your garage and grab some carburetor and choke or brake fluid cleaner. This was one of the more unusual remedies I found during my research; nevertheless, there are folks out there who claim it works.
With a little time and effort, it seems even nail polish can be safely removed from your carpet. If you've found a cleaning method that works for you, feel free to post it in the comments of this blog!
