Removing Juice Stains from Carpet

Fruit juice contains tons of vitamin C and antioxidants that are great for you, but your carpet can surely do without it. Thankfully, there are ways to clean up juice stains without having to shell out loads of cash for a professional cleaner. You can try this popular technique that I found on the Internet. Be sure to test any solutions on an inconspicuous area of the carpet first to make sure they don't damage it.

Here are the steps:

1) Remove as much juice as possible by blotting (not rubbing) with a clean white cloth. Work from the outside to the center of the stain to prevent it from spreading.

2) Lay a cloth moistened with cleaning solution on top of the stain.
These four carpet cleaning solutions should be safe for most carpet types:

  • 1 teaspoon neutral detergent with 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 1 quart cold water
  • ¼ cup baking soda and 2 cups cold water
  • ¼ teaspoon mild, non-bleach detergent with 1 liter cool water
  • For cranberry juice: apply 3% hydrogen peroxide then ammonia (Note: Do not use ammonia on wool or oriental rugs.)

3) Gently press on the cloth with the bottom of a spoon. This allows you to set the solution into the stain without damaging the carpet fibers. Repeat until the stain is gone.

4) Blot with a clean dry cloth, spray water, and then blot with another dry cloth. Repeat until all the cleaning solution is removed.

5) Cover area with a clean cloth or absorbent pad, and place heavy objects on top. Leave set for several hours to absorb any remaining liquid, then let air dry afterwards.

6) Vacuum the area after it has dried completely.

Your carpet will be juicy free once this process is completed! Leave us a comment to let us know how it worked for you, or if you know of other helpful juice-removal techniques.
