If you thought that ice cubes were only good for chilling a drink or reducing swelling, you might be in for a surprise. Ice can be a great way to repair dents left in your carpet by heavy furniture! After you've moved your furniture, simply place ice cubes in each dent and allow them to melt overnight. As the ice melts, the dented carpet pile will begin to fluff back up. In the morning, blot any excess water with a clean white cloth or paper towel. If the pile hasn't completely recovered, you can gently lift the fibers with a fork. Before trying this method make sure that your particular carpet, carpet backing, or sub-floor won't be damaged by the water.
Another way to remove dents is to put your iron onto its "steam" setting and gently use the steam and a brush to pull the fibers up. Do not place the iron directly onto the carpet as you can burn or melt the fibers; just let the steam blow onto and moisten them. Then use the brush to blend the fibers back in with the rest of the carpet.
