Removing Cigarette Burns from Carpet

It can be easy to get "hot-headed" if someone accidentally drops a cigarette and leaves a burn mark on your beautiful carpet. While it may seem like an impossible problem to fix, I've searched the Internet and found a simple and effective way to repair a cigarette burn.

Here are the steps:

1) Take an exacto knife and carefully cut out the burned carpet fibers. Take care to not cut the carpet's backing (or your fingers!).

2) Take a spare square of carpet and cut enough fibers to fill the now empty spot on your floor. If you don't have any spare pieces, find a hidden edge or corner of carpeting you can use.

3) Using a hot-glue gun, hold the fibers at one end with a pair of tweezers and apply glue to the other end. Next, gently place the fibers in the empty spot until it is completely filled. To make sure they are stuck down, press them in with a pair of blunt scissors or the end of a piece of silverware. Don't use your hands to push them in, as this could result in burned fingers!

4) If the new carpet fibers are a bit longer than the surrounding fibers, use a pair of scissors to trim off any excess and even them out.

5) Use a carpet roller or brush to blend the new fibers in with the old.

6) Voila! Carpet that looks as good as new!

So even with a cigarette burn, your carpet can still be repaired. If you have another method to repair a cigarette burn, post it in the comments of this blog!

I never would have thought of this. I got a burn in my carpet from a party and thought I'd have to re-carpet the whole room. Thanks!

I got a cigarette burn in my new carpet this past weekend from a party. You saved my carpet! It was just installed too. It's a somewhat low carpet fiber friendly for a lot of foot traffic, hence the party. I just did exactly what you guys told me and my carpet really does look like new. Can't believe it ! My carpet was pretty short to being with and i was skeptical about this but IT WORKED!Its better than finding matching carpet to fill in the burn mark! THANKS A BUNCH!

My carpet was very obviously burnt in three places about the size of an average thumbnail each after embers fell from my fireplace, I thought all was lost so thought I'd see if anyone on the internet had any tips to share and found this page. When I first read this idea I laughed out loud, but after trying a whole bunch of other solutions short of cutting a section out and replacing it, to no avail, but I had nothing left to lose so I gave it a go, and it worked! Thank you so much, it was such a relief to have the carpet so restored, you wouldn't even notice it now unless you knew it was there. It seemed far too simple to work, but obviously sometimes a simple solution really is the best. You've saved me thousands, and I'm so grateful.
