Removing Chocolate From Carpet

Chocolate may be great on ice cream, cake, and cookies, but it isn't much fun when it ends up on your carpet. Below are some methods I've compiled that you can use to get chocolate out of your carpet. Make sure when using any stain-removing solution that you blot rather than rub, and that you test the solution on a small hidden section of your carpet to make sure it doesn't damage or discolor it.

Before trying one of the following methods, try scraping up as much of the chocolate as possible. Once that's complete, you're ready to remove the remainder of the stain.

1) Apply a dry-cleaning solution to the stain and blot. Repeat as needed.

2) Apply a solution containing ¼ teaspoon of mild detergent mixed into a cup of room temperature water to the stain. Blot the stain from the outside in so as not to spread it. Make sure the detergent you use does not contain bleach or lanolin.

3) Mix 1 part ammonia with 8 parts water and apply to the stain. Next, make sure to extract all of this solution and then rinse the area thoroughly with plain water. Using a carpet cleaning machine to apply the solution may prove more effective than a spray bottle.

With a little know-how and a few cleaning tools you should be able to get that chocolate out. If you have a method to remove chocolate stains make sure to post it in the comments of this blog!

Easter Food Fighter posted on: April 13, 2009

oh my gosh! This worked! We ended up having an Easter food fight!!! Of course my husbands idea! Honestly it was the time of my life. We have 4 kids all at the fun Easter age with the eggs and everything. But when we were done I was terrified! I thought we were going to have to replace our entire carpet. Its a cream/tannish color , its a weird color anyway. We rent too. So I found this blog and started blotting my carpets as directed above. It worked and there was tons of chocolate too. I recommend if anyone has 2 pounds of chocolate scattered around their house after a food fight let it dry and scrape it up with a fork (depending on the style of your carpet) and then vacuum vacuum vacuum! It helped because chocolate will melt again anyway once you get it all damp with a warm cloth. that's what worked for me. Our carpets aren't necessarily brand new but close enough. Thanks!

So glad that you were able to get your chocolate stains out using our blog. Maybe do the food fight outdoors next year and save yourself the hassle :)

Thank you for the advice. This did help! Had a party this past weekend with a chocolate fountain! Chocolate fountains are so much fun but very messy! These tips helped clean up my carpet ! Thx!
