Interior Design and Bamboo Flooring

Most people are in their comfort zone decorating rooms with carpeted floors, but when your flooring has the unique look of bamboo, decorating might feel a little more challenging. Bamboo floors are versatile enough to complement nearly any interior design plan you favor, but where do you begin? If you're considering bamboo flooring but aren't sure how to work a room around it, consider one of these interior design themes.

Cozy: Bamboo flooring is most often found in two shades: natural, which is a soft golden-blond, or carbonized, a richer amber color. Both of these add exceptional warmth to a room, creating a perfect starting point for a cozy interior. Add literal warmth with a fireplace and couches accented with pillows and throws. Dimly-lit table lamps and rich colors like maroon, forest, and navy can also add coziness to a space.

Bright: Perk up your bamboo floors with pastel colors and create light, bright spaces that take advantage of the sunshine. Strip the curtains from the windows and add furniture made of pale wood or wicker for a room where it's summer all year round. You might like to add red roses to a room done in mostly mint green for a fresh splash of color, or try other combinations of pastel and primary shades.

Minimalist: Draw attention to the beauty of your bamboo floors by keeping the rest of your decor simple. Think white furniture in defined shapes, architectural floor lamps, and a well-placed plant or two to add life and interest to your space.

It isn't hard to have a great looking room when you start with flooring as naturally beautiful as bamboo. It's just a matter of how the mood takes you!

I enjoyed this article as I have bamboo floors myself and I too felt the confusion when trying to decorate my room. I would say that I went with what you call the "minimalist design". I have light bamboo floors with almost everything else in the room in white colors. Very simple and relaxing.

Great article. Another good way to help make the room cozy is to choose hand scrapped bamboo. I have Ming Dynasty hand scrapped bamboo floors and they are beautiful.

I just installed bamboo flooring in my new eco-friendly house. I love the look of it and the feel of this floor as well. I have a very french-esque style to my decorating, very victorian/european mix. Lots of antiques, bronzes, golds, ambers, and bright burnt orange colors all over my home and the bamboo floors that were installed, professionally of course, are the perfect edge to my decor. I love the cozy warmth it brings to all of my rooms. Its a great floor and its eco-friendly. So GO BAMBOO!
